Bombsquad's Carlo-Clauss, Winters pick up wins in Gladius Fights 1

Holding a debut show on the night of a UFC event is a risky business venture but Gladius Fights 1 had some solid backing in terms of importance if not finances.  MMA is illegal in New York off of Indian land (sovereign nations) so the Seneca Nation hosted and sanctioned this event at the Cattaraugus Community Center in Irving, NY while Team Bombsquad handled most of the promoter’s rolls.  The event was webcast by GofightLive and is still available as a pay-per-view webcast in their archives.

It may not have been pretty but Don Carlo-Clauss’ strategy against Eddie Fyvie sure was effective.  Fyvie dropped Carlo-Clauss in round 1 and twice went for an armbar but other than that the fight was all “CC” scoring with kicks (mainly in round 2), dirty boxing, and takedowns.

The co-main event was much less close as Mike Winters used ground-and-pound to grind out a decision, his fourth of his 7-2 career.  Winters hit a bump in his career in 2011 with losses in BFC and CFFC (with one win in CFFC between) but turned it around this year with a decision over Ryan Saunders and now TJ Sumler.

Jabril Patterson def. Dan Jennings 3:04 R1 by TKO
