Chad Mendes after a WEC victory
Former UFC featherweight title challenger Chad Mendes has been matched with Hacran Dias. The bout will take place at UFC on FX 6, which takes place at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Gold Coast, Australia on Dec. 14.
Mendes won his first 11 professional fights and quickly earned a title shot. At UFC 142, "Money" faced off against featherweight champion Jose Aldo, but failed to make it out of the first round. Aldo finished the fight with one second left in the first with a dazzling display of knees and punches. Since the loss, Mendes has gotten back on track with a knockout of his own. He stopped TUF veteran Cody McKenzie in less than a minute at UFC 148.
The Team Alpha Male product also holds victories over Rani Yahya, Michihiro Omigawa and Cub Swanson.
Between 2009-2011 Dias won eight-straight fights on the Brazilian circuit. His four submission and two knockouts caught the attention of the UFC, and he signed with the promotion in 2012. In his UFC debut, the Nova Uniao prospect defeated fellow countryman Yuri Alcantara via unanimous decision.
In the main event of UFC on FX 6, lightweights George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson will face off. The two coached against each other on "The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes," which pitted Australian fighters against British fighters.
