Doo Hoo Choi was supposed to do April fight with no purse but the fight got cancelled because he couldn't make the contract weight. For this upcoming fight against Kosuke Umeda, he probably has to fight for free but a win should put him back into a title contention immediately.
Doo Hoo Choi's opponent is finally confirmed and its going to be Kosuke Umeda.
Umeda's nick name is "Korean Hunter" now because he is currently 4-0 against Koreans including a recent win over Sengoku vet Won Sik Park in DEEP 58.
Umeda is a veteran however his record is mediocre at 11 wins 11 losses and 3 draws so this shouldn't be such a tough fight for Choi who is currently on a six-fight winning streak - four of them are by KO / TKO including a flying knee shot win over former DEEP lightweight champ Nobuhiro Obiya and DREAM vet Mitsuhiro Ishida.
Choi was supposed to fight Kazunori Yokota for DEEP featherweight title in February but did a disappearing act because he was "injured and didn't know what to do" according to what 21-year old Korean explained at the DEEP press conference back in April.
Choi also missed the weight in April which resulted in a cancellation of the fight so obviously, before thinking about beating Umeda, Choi would have to make sure his injury is healed, and he is on time in terms of cutting weight.
In addition DEEP announced four other fight cards for this show including a bantamweight bout between DREAM vet Yusaku Nakamura and Hirotaka Miyagawa from team ALLIANCE. Nakamura lost to Atsushi Yamamoto in the DREAM Japan GP opening round but scored few knock downs in this fight. Miyakawa is also a striker who KO'd Kasuya Sakae with one shot so we can expect a hard hitting bout from these two fighters.
