Cage Fury Fighting Championship have only been off since June but Friday’s CFFC 16 show seems more like an end-of-year extravaganza with four title fights plus many Atlantic City area favorites.  CFFC 16 takes place August 24th at Borgata Hotel and Casino with a live pay-per-view webcast on GoFightLive.

Tim WilliamsTim WilliamsStill undefeated after seven fights Tim Williams returns in the main event to fight for the vacant middleweight title against UFC vet Dustin Jacoby.  Williams was last seen in June at CFFC 15 scoring his fifth submission with a rear naked choke over Lewis Rumsey.  Jacoby is mainly known for his two UFC losses but otherwise has no losses with his most recent being a KO of Billy Johnson in June.  This is a classic matchup of striker vs. grappler but the key possibly being what he learned in his two UFC fights.

Many people are saying Aljamain Sterling is one fight away from the UFC with this defense of his title possibly being the tipping point.  Sterling won the CFFC title in October 2011 by defeating Sean Santella (current flyweight champion) and defended it against Casey Johnson in April bringing his total record to 6-0.  Sidemar Honorio took a loss to Santella in April 2011 then defeated Johnson just one day shy of one year later.  That year off for Honorio is said to be the difference in his fighting which earned the 802 Daddis Fight Camps representative this shot.

Sean SantellaSean SantellaSpeaking of Sean Santella the Flyweight champion defends his title against Evan Velez on this show.  After losing to Sterling for the bantamweight title Santella dropped to flyweight where he won the vacant title by defeating Bryan Lashomb and defended it against Tuan Pham.  Bombsquad’s Velez is making his CFFC debut with a 5-1 record coming off wins against Ernesto Ornelas and Arthur Parker so far this year.  Santella stands out most for his submission work while Bombsquad incorporate some of the best wrestlers, the key to this fight likely being which fighter has the better striking.

Having just won the welterweight title in April George Sullivan rounds out this card with his first title defense against Tenyeh Dixon.  Sullivan took the title from Greg Soto with a KO punch just over two minutes into their title fight at CFFC 14 bringing his record to 10-3.  10-8 Dixon has had a rocky career but is on a three-fight win streak this year with a TKO of John Flock, a KO of Richard Patishnock, and a decision over Kasheem Peterson.
