Sanctioning MMA in New York has been one of the hottest topics behind the
scenes this year but as covered in the archives the New York legislature failed
to cut through the red tape this year.
That doesn’t affect sovereign nations (known to most Americans as
“American Indian land”) such as the Seneca Nation of Indians which hosts Raging
Wolf 5 “Mayhem in the Mist” on Saturday, October 10th at the Seneca Niagara
Casino & Hotel in Niagara Falls, NY.
The fight card itself is a mix of amateur and pro headlined by Yves Edwards vs.
Kyle Jensen and Molly Helsel vs. Alexis Davis.
As of this writing the full card is not available.
UFC/Pride vet Yves Edwards has been covered extensively in the archives, most
recently for his win in Shine Fights over James Warfield just one month
ago. Yves has long been known for his
standup style but since joining American Top Team around two years ago his game
has been much more complete as evidenced in said Warfield fight. Kyle Jensen since his WEC loss to Carlos
Condit almost three years ago has gone on a 9-0-1 streak, most recently
defeating UFC vet Rich Clementi by TKO at UCFC in June. Both have extensive records and both are
going to be hungry for a win so look for this fight to be explosive but not
quickly over.
Also in the archives is coverage of Molly Helsel’s career in Bodog and
HOOKnSHOOT. Helsel has been off for
about a year since her rear naked choke win over Amber Tackett but considering
her training partners in the San Diego area that doesn’t mean Helsel has been
taking it easy at all. Helsel’s opponent
this night will be Alexis Davis who was on a six-fight win streak before top
fighter Tara LaRosa defeated her by TKO in January. This fight will be for the first ever Raging
Wolf title belt, especially notable since they will be fighting five
five-minute rounds, a hot topic with the women who have largely outside
Strikeforce been relegated to three-minute rounds or three-round title fights.
Although at this time the show is not expected to be filmed definitely look for
this show to have a long-term impact on the New York sanctioning drive as well
as the records of these standout fighters.
