Rickson Seminar in Houston sold out and a huge success
Leonardo Xavier and The LX
Jiu-Jitsu Association would like to thank all in attendance at Master Rickson
Gracie’s first official visit to Texas where he finished his national
“Invisible Jiu-Jitsu” seminar tour. This
historic two-day event was an enormous success! More than 200 eager students
gathered at our Sugar Land headquarters to learn from the most respected and
admired man to ever step on a Jiu-Jitsu mat. Master Rickson was assisted by
Renato Barreto, a highly regarded Gracie Humaita black belt in teaching
attendees the modifications he has developed through a lifetime of studying the
gentle art. Professor Xavier also helped assist his mentor as he practiced the
many brilliant concepts shared during each four-hour session.
The “Invisible Jiu-Jitsu” seminar tour is Master Rickson’s way of sharing the gift of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and all of the benefits that come with learning the philosophies taught to him by his father with the rest of the world. Leonardo stressed to all his students that this was a very rare opportunity presented for us to learn from the person who is widely regarded to be the most gifted and dedicated practitioner of the gentle art and the Gracie family Champion.
Master Rickson Gracie was very impressed with the quality of Jiu-Jitsu he observed in our students and complimented Leo by referring to him as “Pioneering Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in Texas.” Having our school chosen to host the first ever Rickson Gracie seminar in Texas was an indescribable honor and validation of the hard work, dedication and sacrifices made to bring our students the highest quality of Jiu-Jitsu available. The two-day event coincided with the 10-year anniversary of Leo’s own first teaching engagements in Texas. This weekend marked an important milestone in the growth of the LX Jiu-Jitsu Association. Our students now have the responsibility of carrying on his teaching and improving on techniques learned until his return for the next sequences of the “invisible Jiu-Jitsu” seminar tour. It was a joyous occasion with a family reunion-like feel to it. Old friends from around the country got to catch up and train together again, many of us got to meet a living legend that we deeply respect and admire for the first time and Master Rickson and Professor Xavier got to rekindle the bond that they shared in Brazil so many years ago when Leo began to learn Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
During the seminar students went over multiple details that emphasize the values of momentum and leverage when applied to the practice of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Master Rickson Gracie and his assistant went around the room correcting students’ technique and offering encouragement and advise to all those they spoke with. Upon concluding the learning portion of the seminar, students sat in a circle around the guest of honor as he jovially answered questions from the crowd, sharing personal anecdotes and explaining his opinions and beliefs regarding diverse subjects. After the Q&A, Professor Xavier thanked Master Gracie for being so gracious to us all and presented him and Mr. Barreto with plaques to express his gratitude and appreciation. Xavier thanked his friend and instructor for his friendship and mentoring and expressed what a tremendous honor it was to be able to host the final seminar of Rickson Gracie’s prestigious and very exclusive tour.
Each session ended with Master Rickson taking pictures with every student, signing souvenirs, and giving autographs to anyone who asked. Though it was sad to see our guest of honor say goodbye, we were reassured that he was very pleased with the experience and that he considered himself “part of the family now” so he would be coming back to teach us as many times as his busy schedule permits. On behalf of the entire LX Jiu-Jitsu Association, congratulations to all who got the opportunity to learn the most refined expression of pure Gracie Jiu-Jitsu from the living legend Master Rickson Gracie. This historic event could not have taken place without your help!!!
The Wizzard thanks Rickson
