On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman
speaks with mixed martial arts fighter and grappler Jessica Aguilar (http:// jessicaaguilar.com).
A grappling world champion in both 2009 and 2010, she will be fighting in the
eight-woman, 115-pound mixed martial arts tournament promoted by the Bellator
Fighting Championships. Her first fight will be against Lynn Alvarez at
Bellator 24 on Thursday, August 12, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino
in Hollywood, Florida, and shown live in the U.S. on Fox Sports Net.
We spoke by phone Tuesday about her combat sports career. In a lengthy and
animated discussion, she outlined her intriguing story of how she became
involved with mixed martial arts, grappling, and jiu-jitsu, almost by accident.
She explained in detail why she is today so passionate about these combat
sports, what they mean to her, and why more women should take them up. She
discussed her virtual "family" at American Top Team, where she
trains. She stressed why she believes that "this is my time" to
become successful in mixed martial arts, win this very competitive tournament,
and emerge as a star in this sport, and much more.
