Striforce Event With Two BJJ World Champions

The Strikeforce event this weekend in Houston, Tx will have two BJJ World Champions competing in it. 2X World Absolute Champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza faces Tim Kennedy for the belt while Andre Galvao goes against BJJ and Chuteboxes Jorge "Macaco" Patino. The entire card is full of top fighters but since Kid is mainly focused on BJJ the spotlight here is on Souza, Galvao and Patino, all three are personal friends and we wish them luck.

IBJJF Black Belt Clarification

Kid received inquiries about the "new Black Belt" sign up rules for IBJJF tournaments, so we went right to the top for clarification, and we got it from the top brass, Marcelo "Siriema" Araujo and Andre Fernandes: "The rule is the same as its been in Brazil for 10 years, Black Belts need to have a Federation ID to compete, that ID costs $30.00 and it is a simple process to obtain. Check the IBJJF site for details and the form."

So no excuses be there or be square!

BAD BJJ

Our friend and high level Black Belt "BP" (initials only to protect his undercover ID) wrote us about an episode that occured to him that illustrates what BJJ is not about:

"Today my team was working a narcotics case in South Los Angeles.  As we were trying to locate our suspect an individual drove up alongside my partner and throw a water bottle at his door and then ramming his car, an unmarked police vehicle.

My partner activated his lights and pulled the suspect vehicle over.  Upon stopping the driver jumped out of his vehicle took a defensive stance and exclaimed "I just got out of jiu jitsu class!"

My partner who I've been training for several months (white belt) yelled back with his weapon drawn "I'm a cop and your under arrest!" and took the suspect into custody.

A CHP officer who responded to assist also trained jiu jitsu and recognized the suspect as possibly training at his school.  The officer texted a picture of the suspect to his instructor with a brief replay of what had just occurred.  come to find out that the suspect did in fact train at the CHP officers school and just received his blue belt.

The not to be named instructor stated I'll deal with him tomorrow.  The suspect showed first day white belt mistakes and my partner showed black belt experience in dealing with the problem.

Please if you want to start road rage and be a tough guy don't do it under the name of Jiu Jitsu.  That's not what this sports about.... It's about respecting others and self discipline.

Go train good Jiu Jitsu "

Now go train Jiu-Jitsu,
