A meeting between veteran lightweights has been added to UFC on FX 3. The matchbetween Donald Cerrone and Yves Edwards takes place May 15 at the PatriotCenter in Fairfax, Va. New magazine-style show "UFC Tonight" brokethe news on Tuesday.
Cerrone planted himself right in the middle of the lightweight title picturewith a six-fight winning streak. During the run, he bested the likes of ChrisHorodecki, Charles Oliveira and Dennis Siver. However, in his last fight, NateDiaz dominated "Cowboy" over the course of three rounds and handedhim his first defeat since 2010. During his WEC career, Cerrone fought for thelightweight belt three times.
Edwards is in the middle of his third stint in the UFC. Back in 2004, he pickedup victories over Hermes Franca and Josh Thomson and was widely considered theuncrowned UFC lightweight champion. The veteran has also fought for Elite XC,Pride FC and Strikeforce. In his most recent outing, he dropped a controversialdecision to TUF winner Tony Ferguson.
The UFC returns to the Patriot Center for the first time since UFC Fight Night20. A rematch between Brandon Vera and Thiago Silva was expected for the card,but Vera has since dropped out with an injury.
