(Drew Fickett with choke)
Almost three years after their last show in Knoxville the Florida-based
promotion return for XFC 16 “High Stakes” tomorrow night. HDNet will broadcast the show live from the
Knoxville Civic Auditorium-Coliseum.
The main event is a step up for XFC as former WEC champion Jamie Varner takes
on UFC vet Drew Fickett. In 2010 Fickett
seemed to be turning his career around when he won the Shine Fights
single-night tournament but 2011 saw him go 1-3 including his Dream debut
against Tatsuya Kawajiri and in his most recent fight a loss to Ronys Torres at
welterweight. Post-WEC Varner picked up
a win at welterweight and at 160 pounds but lost a fight at lightweight to
Dakota Cochrane. This is a battle of
fighters known for their ground work that also have the strength to TKO.
Also on the card UFC vet Corey Hill takes on ATT’s Nicolae Cury, Carlos Gomez
seeks to extend his win streak to four in a row as he fights fellow Bellator
vet Josh Samman, and undefeated Marianna Kheyfets faces her biggest challenge
to date with Heather Clark.
