Thiago Tavares steps in against TUF winner Tony Ferguson

According to reports, Thiago Tavares will replace Dennis Hallman against TonyFerguson at UFC on Fox 3. The card takes place May 5 at the IZOD Center in EastRutherford, New Jersey.

Brazilian MMA source Tatame was the first to break the news, which has now alsobeen reported by a variety of outlets. The main card of the upcoming card willair live on Fox, Tavarez-Ferguson is expected to be part of the undercard.

The last time Tavares fought in the U.S. he fell victim to a surprisingknockout from Shane Roller. However, he has bounced back with two-straight winsin his native Brazil over Spencer Fisher and Sam Stout. He made his UFC debutback in 2007 and has defeated the likes of Jason Black, Michihiro Omigawa andManny Gamburyan.

In 2011, Ferguson needed less than a round to finish Ramsey Nijem and claim theTUF 13 championship. He has since picked up back-to-back victories over AaronRiley and Yves Edwards. Ferguson will look to return to his dominant fashionafter a controversial nod over Edwards.
