All the fans know the UFC and all the press report on that promotion but wheredo their fighters come from? What else is going on now? Perhaps mostimportantly what shows should fans watch to see tomorrow’s stars develop? TheDeclaration of Independents is a monthly snapshot of what is going on in thenon-UFC or “independent” scene.

Zuffa events and Bellator’s season 6 make for plenty of action on TV but mostof the other independent shows are wisely taking this ten weeks off.  BAMMA returns this weekend however webcastinghasn’t been confirmed, just Extreme Sports Channel.  KOTC of course continue plodding forward withtape-delayed PPVs but even Strikeforce are off until May.  For now it is mainly about Bellator and TUF.

Bellator Fighting Championship (BFC)- Thearguably number 2 promotion tore into season 6 March 9th with another fourtournaments in ten weeks.  So far thegreatest excitement is centering on the rematch between Eddie Alvarez andShinya Aoki April 20th at BFC 66.

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship(CWFC)- A new entry due to Fight Now TV CWFC (as well as MMAjunkie.com)finished the quarterfinals of the MW tournament February 18th as Chris Fieldsdefeated Jack Mason.  The semifinals takeplace April 15th and the finals in July. What is interesting from an independent point of view is BAMMA is alsorunning in the same market while Bellator have been talking expansion into theUK.

DREAM- The New Year’s Eve DREAM showhad plenty of stars but not many surprises (see archives).  No word is available on  the next show however Bellator have beentalking about exchanging fighters like DREAM used to do with Strikeforce.

King of the Cage (KOTC)- The pay-per-viewfor Greatest KO’s 7 airs now while #8 starts March 23rd and #9 April 20th.  On the live front KOTC hit OK and WI both onApril 14th, CA and CO both on April 21st, CA again April 26th, and ID May 17th.
Las Vegas March 3rd, Tulsa March 10th, and both Norman, OK and Walker, MN onMarch 17th.

Chad Robichaux returns to action at LFCChad Robichaux returns to action at LFCLegacy Fighting Championship (LFC)- LFC’sApril 14th show is an amateur show, the next pro card is May 11th in Houstonwith Jorge Patino vs. Jesus Rivera headlining. The show is expected to air on HDNet.

M-1 Global/Challenge/Selection (M1C)- Dueto not being on Showtime (dropped/postponed depending on who one asks) hardlyanybody heard about the March 16th show where Aleksander Emelianenko defeatedTadas Rimkevicius.  No information isavailable on the next show or even if they are still going to be broadcast onShowtime.

Nate Coy fights for WW title in MFCNate Coy fights for WW title in MFCMaximum Fighting Championship (MFC)–Nathan Coy and Ryan McGillivray face off for the welterweight title at MFC 33May 4th, airing live on HDNet.

ProElite- Rumors of ProElite 4taking place in San Jose are continuing to circulate with a date of April 7thbeing the widespread assumption. Whenever it does take place it is assumed to air on HDNet and assumed tohold the finals of the HW tournament.

Score Fighting Series (SFS)- In thearchives is a report from SFS last weekend. At this time no further information is available.

Shark Fights- Due to several monthsof no listing this show is being dropped from this list for now.

Titan FC- In the archives is areport from TFC 21 March 2nd where Jorge Santiago knocked out LeonardoPecanha.  No word is available on the May25th card presumed to be broadcast live on HDNet.

Ultimate Challenge MMA- The newestaddition to Fight Now TV UCMMA is basically the remnants of Cage Rage, actuallythe predecessors (along with Cage Warriors) of the current wave of UK showsincluding BAMMA.  The first UCMMA show toair live from London on Fight Now TV will be April 7th, no card is yetavailable.

Webstreamed shows:

Aggression MMA- In the archives is areport on AMMA 9 February 11th.  Noinformation is available on the next show.

Sean Santella headlines CFFC April 16thSean Santella headlines CFFC April 16thCage Fury Fighting Championships- Takingplace the day after Bellator in NJ CFFC look to make a weekend of the actionwith Sean Santella vs. Tuan Pham headlining their April 16th card.

North American Allied Fight Series(NAAFS)- Slowing down this year from the 20 NAAFS shows of 2011 theOhio-based promotion continue to be webcast on GoFightLive.  The real news however is a pair of NAAFStitles are on the line at Bellator 66 in OH, no information is available on theNAAFS card in WV April 27th.

Pat Audinwood co-headlines ROC April 27thPat Audinwood co-headlines ROC April 27thRing of Combat (ROC)- March 17th wasan amateur show for ROC, the next pro card is April 27th, expected to webstreamon GoFightLive.  The main event featuresTom DeBlass vs. Danny Babcock while Pat Audinwood vs. Derrick Kenningtonco-headlines.

Tachi Palace Fights (TPF)- In thearchives is a report on TPF 12 which was webstreamed on Sherdog.com.  At this time there is no further informationon the next event.

Other:

Invicta MMA- No news is available onhow this new company’s first show April 28th will be distributed but it isalready getting a lot of attention due to the all-women card.  Former Strikeforce champion Marloes Coenenfights Romy Ruyssen in the main event.

Superior Cage Combat (SCC)- Withtheir fourth event SCC continued to grow in importance if not distribution withJay Silva defeating Kendall Grove in the main event.  Since this show just happened February 16ththere is no word on the fifth event.
