Woodard dislocates Freire's arm, Hawn knocks out Tirloni at BFC 62

Bellator 62 had its share of surprises with the lightweightquarterfinals and Eric Prindle literally walking away with the season 5heavyweight tournament March 23rd.  BNFC62 took place at the Laredo Energy Arena in Laredo, TX with a main cardbroadcast on MTV2, undercard on Spike.com.

As covered in previews for BFC 61 and 62 Prindle and Thiago Santos’ first fightat BFC 59 ended with a “no contest” due to illegal blow.  They were set to rematch last week at BFC 61but Prindle suffered “flu-like symptoms” and the bout was rescheduled for thisone.  Unfortunately for this show Santosfailed to make weight and the bout was scrapped with Prindle being literallygiven the season 5 HW title and a shot at Cole Konrad.  A disappointing ending  but at least the situation is concluded.

The biggest surprise came in the lightweight tournament as Lloyd Woodard notonly defeated Patricky Freire, he became the first fighter to finish Freirewith a rather disturbing kimura.  Aftertaking a lot of punishment in round 1 at the hands of Freire Woodard came outfor round 2 even more aggressive, working some strikes from Freire’s guarduntil trapping the arm and rolling for the kimura.  Freire tapped but not until his arm wasvisibly dislocated.

Rick Hawn came back from his first loss, the finals of the season 4welterweight tournament, to pick up a first-round KO of Ricardo Tirloni.  This is somewhat of a surprise to those whoaren’t familiar with Hawn and only read he was a 2004 Olympic judo competitorbut actually of his twelve wins eight have been by KO/TKO and four bydecision.

Also in the tournament Brent Weedman defeated J.J. Ambrose while Thiago Michelpicked up a split decision over Rene Nazare.

Up next Bellator head to CT for the quarterfinals of the welterweighttournament March 30th.
