Atlantic City, NJ – On SaturdayApril 14th, 2012 Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) will bringmixed-martial-arts (MMA) for the first time ever to the Boragta Hotel Casinoand Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey. For this historic event, CFFC will havethree titles on the line including the anticipated title bout between currentCFFC flyweight champion, Sean "Shorty Rock" Santella and "KidThunder" Tuan Pham.
Coming into this fight, you would think Pham was the champion because of theconfidence he has in his abilities. Starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under currentUFC referee, Mario Yamasaki in 1998, Pham added this skill to his effectiveMuay Thai arsenal. Pham was the East Coast Muay Champion in 2003 and later wentthrough a 7-0 undefeated record in amateur MMA. When Pham turned pro in 2009,he faced very tough competition from the gate. His toughest bout was againstBellator veteran Jesse Riggleman in 2010.
"He was 8-0 at the time and I had 24-hour notice when I accepted thefight," said Pham on the Riggleman fight. "I got the call at noon onday of the weigh- in and rushed over to Atlantic City to the sauna. With thatbeing said, I easily won the first round and it was a close second round whichI believe I had the slight advantage. It went back and forth with the takedownsuntil I got caught in a power guillotine. He was the toughest because he wasable to match my pace."
Although Riggleman was tough, Pham knows that his current opponent is tougher."Sean Santella will be my toughest opponent to date," said Pham."That being said, he is one-dimensional. He is very good with hisgrappling. But I do not believe his striking compares with mine. I think myground skills are competent enough to defend his submission attempts. I ambetter-rounded in mma than him but it will be battle of who dictates theirgame."
Pham believes that if he is able to implement his game plan, he will be the newCFFC Bantamweight Champion. "I am going to try to finish him withstrikes,’ said Pham. "What will happen exactly is me coming forward andhim running around trying a couple of sloppy overhands, maybe just to setup hisshot. Hopefully I will have prepared myself to defend his takedown attempts soI can unleash pain on him."
