Bellator drops Masakatsu Ueda and Alexis Vila

Bellator Fighting Championships has released a pair of bantamweights thatfailed to advance to the next round of their current tournament. The fightersare Olympic medalist Alexis Vila and former Shooto world champion MasakatsuUeda. Sherdog broke the news on Monday.

Ueda finally received a shot in the big show after mostly dominating thecompetition in Shooto. However, in his Bellator debut, he came up short againstGreg Jackson trainee Travis Marx. Ueda holds victories over Royler Gracie,Rumina Sato, WEC veteran Akitoshi Tamura and current Bellator bantamweightchampion Eduardo "Dudu" Dantas.

Vila made a big splash in his Bellator debut. He knocked out then featherweightchampion Joe Warren in a little over a minute. Vila then took a controversialdecision over Marcos Galvao to reach the tournament finals. However, there hedropped a decision to Dantas. In the current tournament, Vila failed to reachthe second round after losing a decision to Brazilian prospect Luis Nogueira.

Marx will face Hiroshi Nakamura in the semifinals, while Luis Nogueira willcontinue his quest against Marcos Galvao.
