Alistair Overeem out, Frank Mir in against Junior dos Santos

The UFC has pulled the trigger and removed Alistair Overeem from his upcomingtitle bout against champion Junior dos Santos. The Brazilian will now faceformer champion Frank Mir in the main event of UFC 146, which takes place May26 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Overeem earned a title shot after soundly defeating Brock Lesnar and sendinghim out of the sport at UFC 141. However, a random drug screening on March 27performed by the NSAC showed that the fighter's testosterone to epitestosteroneratio was a stunning 14 to 1. Even though the former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1champion has a hearing scheduled for next week, he has been removed from thefight.

Mir has been scheduled to face fellow former champion Cain Velasquez on thecard. He will now face Dos Santos for the belt. Mir has twice won the UFC belt.He submitted Tim Sylvia for the title at UFC 48 in 2004. He then became thefirst man to knock out Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 92 and claimed theinterim version of the title.

Dos Santos burst onto the scene with a first-round knockout of Fabricio Werdumat UFC 90. He has not looked back since. He has gone undefeated in the UFC andin his last fight, he captured the heavyweight belt with a quick knockout ofVelasquez.
