Its an opportunity for a guy like Edward "Falo" Faaloloto who is currently on a three-fight losing streak to fight in Pancrase.
When Masakazu Sakai took over the ownership of Pancrase one of the many things he came up were, "Global Standard".
Pancrase will do more cage shows next year, and the rules will be adjusted to be closer to North America's unified rules, are the two things Sakai stated in public, and now, it seems like Pancrase is going to start bringing in more fighters from outside Japan. Especially those with UFC experiences.
According to the release from Pancrase that is the reason why Edward "Falo" Faaloloto was chosen as an opponent of Yoshiaki "Bancho" Takahashi in the upcoming November event.
"Falo" fought twice in the UFC, also in the WEC, are the two issues emphasized in this announcement.
Some Japanese media is writing something like "Can Takahashi breakthrough 'global standard'?" however, this is quite over-exaggerating.
In today's MMA, you can find more than 300 so-called "UFC veterans" and on top of this, Faaloloto's pro MMA record is 2-3, and those two fights he did in the UFC, he lost both of them in the first round. Sure those were against tough guys like Michael Johnson and Terry Etim but its obvious that Faaloloto is not exactly a "world-class" fighter in today's MMA standard.
Its a great if this trend of bringing fighters from outside continues in Pancrase but if they are going to spend money then let's hope this 19-year old MMA promotion can bring in someone with more impressive resume.
