Olympian Sara McMann
MMAWeekly broke the news that Olympian Sara McMann has been forced out of her scheduled fight against Liz Carmouche. The bout was set to be part of Strikeforce's upcoming show, which takes place Nov. 3 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.
McMann was set to make her Strikeforce debut after picking up her biggest victory to date at Invicta FC 2. In the main event, McMann bested Elite XC veteran Shayna Baszler. In her short MMA career, the former wrestler also holds victories over Strikeforce veteran Hitomi Akano, Raquel Pa'aluhi and Tonya Evinger.
Before competing in MMA, McMann represented the U.S. at the 2004 Olympic games and took home a silver medal.
Carmouche recently defeated Kaitlin Young on the undercard of "McMann vs. Baszler." She also holds victories over Jan Finney and Colleen Schneider. She is probably most remembered for a pair of fights she had under the Strikeforce banner. Even though she dropped bouts to Marloes Coenen and Sarah Kaufman, she aquitted herself well.
The headliner for the upcoming Strikeforce card was supposed to be a heavyweight contest between Daniel Cormier and former UFC champion Frank Mir. However, Mir has been forced off the card, and Zuffa is still searching for a replacement.
