This arm-triangle choke by Yoshifumi Nakamura (top) made the difference in judges' score cards.
Obviously Sustain had a high hope for Shigeki Osawa.
After leaving a profound impression in the mind of many by knocking out Hiroyuki Abe with just one hook, it made sense for Sustain to pursue Osawa.
Even though less than 30 days since he fought Abe, Sustain wanted to book Osawa to face Yoshifumi Nakamura.
Nakamura is last year's Shooto rookie of the year at 145 lbs division but recently suffered two consecutive losses. Yet his fight style is very aggressive so this was a good match-up of two fighters with a similar style.
Osawa accepted a fight and the fans were hoping to see two guys exchanging leathers but this one turned out to be bit different.
Hayato "Mach" Sakurai's student had a different plan. Instead of striking with Osawa he used strikes to close in and went for the take down.
In the second round, Nakamura caught Osawa in a arm-triangle choke. This was in deep but somehow Osawa escaped. Nakamura quickly got on Osawa's back and dropped few fists. Osawa was in trouble but saved by the bell.
Nakamura ran out of gas in the third round and allowed Osawa to take him down however back on the feet, he exchanged strikes, then at the end of the round, shot in, and scored a take down.
Two out of three judges gave to Nakamura perhaps because he was always attacking, and also, that arm-triangle choke in the second round.
After the fight, in the ring, Nakamura toold the fans, "I am sorry for slowing down at the end. I want to be more stronger, be more aggressive, and be more active."
