The UFC is working towards a light heavyweight showdown between Lyoto Machida and Dan Henderson. Even though the bout is not officially made, UFC president Dana White indicated that the bout was likely during the lead up to this weekened's UFC on FX 6 card.

Henderson had been given a shot at UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 152. However, during the lead up to the event, the Olympian injured his medial collateral ligament and was forced to pull out of the contest. Without a proper main event, the promotion cancelled the entire card.

Over the course of his career, Henderson has captured several major titles including the Pride welterweight and middleweight titles as well as the Strikeforce light heavyweight title. Despite this, he has been unable to capture a UFC title save for the UFC 17 tournament championship.

Machida was considered one of the potential replacements for Henderson against Jones, but the fight never materialized. Since dropping a fight to Jones in 2011, Machida has gotten back on the winning track with a second-round knockout of Ryan Bader. During his career, he has also defeated Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Rashad Evans and Randy Couture.
